Handel, Ted M.

Ted M. Handel is of counsel at Koletsky, Mancini, Feldman & Morrow.  Over the past 20 years, most spent primarily in private practice, Mr. Handel has focused on representing clients in all facets of real estate transactions and forming and counseling nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations.  As counsel for for-profit and nonprofit developers, he drafts, reviews, and negotiates purchase and sale agreements and leases, loan and bond documents, partnership and limited liability company agreements, joint venture agreements, construction contracts, and low-income housing and New Markets tax credits documents.  With regard to nonprofit corporations, he prepares all corporate documents and qualifies such corporations for tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service and California Franchise Tax Board and advises boards of directors on nonprofit corporate compliance matters.

Mr. Handel is a member of the American Bar Association – Real Estate Section and Affordable Housing Forum and the Los Angeles County Bar Association and is a member of the Los Angeles Lawyer Editorial Board.  Mr. Handel has authored or co-authored several articles, including The New Markets Tax Credit Program (Los Angeles Lawyer, January 2003), Leveraging Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (co-authored with David C. Nahas, Los Angeles Lawyer, January 2004), and Gimme Shelter (co-authored with Aamir Raza, Los Angeles Lawyer, January 2009).

Mr. Handel was born on January 14, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1975 from the University of Southern California and his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in 1978.  He was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 1980 and the State Bar of California in 1988.  In addition, he is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
